Fernando Bernard Mitchell is a native of Hickory, MS. The youngest child of the late Oscar and Bernice Mitchell. He was licensed to preach the gospel at Good Hope
MB Church in Hickory, MS., and began pastoring four months later at the age of 20.
Pastor Mitchell was a part of the first graduating class of Newton County High School. He attended Jackson State University where he majored in finance marketing. He received his Bachelor of Theology and a Master’s of Divinity from E.L. White Theological Seminary. May 26, 2000 he received his Doctorate of Divinity from E.L. White. He is a member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where Dr. Frank Ray, Sr. is the pastor.
He has been the pastor of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Mendenhall, MS since June 1, 1999. His pastorate is centered around that Christ is the head of the
church. He received a proclamation from Simpson County in 2003. It was the first proclamation ever given by the county. He received 2002 Pastor of the Year Award from Spring Hill District Association. He has served in many denominational positions in the district, state, and national levels. He is the past Moderator of the Third Enterprise District Association, past President of the Spring Hill Congress of Christian Education and former General Secretary of the East Mississippi Baptist State Convention. He served on the executive committee of the Young Pastors and Ministers Division and staff member of the late night service of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. He is presently First Vice Moderator of the Spring Hill District Association, a member of the Board of Directors and Congress of Christian Education Regional Director of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi and Chairman of Late Night Services for the National Baptist Convention, USA Inc. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc where he is serving as local chapter chaplain. He is the first Mississippi State Chaplain and the first Southern Regional Chaplain for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He is the Chaplain Coordinator for Natchez Police Department and Chaplain for Magee High School athletic department . He has been blessed to be chosen by God to be a National Evangelist. He has been married to the former Dizzia Mosley since June 4, 1994 and blessed to have five children and six grandchildren. He lives by the scripture “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me” Phillippians 4:13.
